5 Tips to Achieve Your Goals2 min read

make it happen

At the start of the New Year, everyone is talking about their goals for the year. Gyms tend to be full for the month of January, the healthy eating has started and devices are banned from bedrooms. Most of us are guilty of keeping up these goals for only a few weeks and then forgetting about them!

It’s now the end of January (scary how time flies!) and it’s time to look back on the resolutions you made to check your progress. If you are on track, well done! If not, don’t worry. It’s coming up to a new month, which means you can get back on track or even make some new goals.

Here are my 5 tips for achieving your goals:

1. Be Realistic

When setting goals, it’s extremely important to be realistic about what you can achieve if you work for it. If you aren’t being realistic, you’re immediately setting yourself up for disappointment.

2. Focus on a few things

Often we think of long lists of things we would like to achieve. This can be quite overwhelming and disappointing when we fail to accomplish them. It is much more fulfilling and manageable to achieve a couple of goals. I would stick to 5 or less. If you need some inspiration, take a look at my 3 goals for 2017.

3. Write them down

Writing down your goals will set them in stone and make you more likely stick to them, especially if you hang them up on your bedroom wall or somewhere you will see them every day. This will engrave them into your brain and hopefully drive your decisions with them in mind!

4. Make them measurable

It’s much easier to stick to goals if you can track your progress. If you have a goal that is quite broad, split it into smaller pieces.  For example, if you want to become a more confident person, ask yourself how am I going to do this? Break it into smaller pieces such as joining a public speaking class or promising yourself to speak up at least once in every class.

5. Review your goals

There’s no point in making all of these great resolutions and then never checking back on them! It’s important to review them regularly and check your progress. If you’ve achieved some goals, it’s time to make new ones!

I really hope these tips help you.

Now go and review the goals you made and make them more achievable! Make February YOUR month! 🙂

If you have any more ideas, please share them!

I couldn’t agree with you more on these points, I had to think really hard this year about what goals I wanted to set, that would be attainable to me. x

Great list! Making a list is so crucial to me. I post it up so I have to look at it daily and be reminded what my goals are. No excuses that way! 🙂 | http://ourpassportpages.com/

I like #3 the best! If I don’t write things down, focus can easily shift. For me, there are too many goals I want to achieve and too many things I want to do. I try my best to take it one day at a time, baby steps. Too many things, too little time.

Yeah, it’s definitely best to take them one step at a time! And I totally agree, there are not enough hours in the day – I could really do with some more haha!

What a great post, Ali! This year has been the year that I have actually take the full initiative to make my goals happen while being realistic of them. As you have stated above, writing your goals down make a huge difference. Literally, almost every goal that I have written down has come into fruition.
