At the start of the New Year, everyone is talking about their goals for the year. Gyms tend to be full for the month of January, the healthy eating has started and devices are banned from bedrooms. Most of us are guilty of keeping up these goals for only a few weeks and then forgetting about them!
It’s now the end of January (scary how time flies!) and it’s time to look back on the resolutions you made to check your progress. If you are on track, well done! If not, don’t worry. It’s coming up to a new month, which means you can get back on track or even make some new goals.
Here are my 5 tips for achieving your goals:
1. Be Realistic
When setting goals, it’s extremely important to be realistic about what you can achieve if you work for it. If you aren’t being realistic, you’re immediately setting yourself up for disappointment.
2. Focus on a few things
Often we think of long lists of things we would like to achieve. This can be quite overwhelming and disappointing when we fail to accomplish them. It is much more fulfilling and manageable to achieve a couple of goals. I would stick to 5 or less. If you need some inspiration, take a look at my 3 goals for 2017.
3. Write them down
Writing down your goals will set them in stone and make you more likely stick to them, especially if you hang them up on your bedroom wall or somewhere you will see them every day. This will engrave them into your brain and hopefully drive your decisions with them in mind!
4. Make them measurable
It’s much easier to stick to goals if you can track your progress. If you have a goal that is quite broad, split it into smaller pieces. For example, if you want to become a more confident person, ask yourself how am I going to do this? Break it into smaller pieces such as joining a public speaking class or promising yourself to speak up at least once in every class.
5. Review your goals
There’s no point in making all of these great resolutions and then never checking back on them! It’s important to review them regularly and check your progress. If you’ve achieved some goals, it’s time to make new ones!
I really hope these tips help you.
Now go and review the goals you made and make them more achievable! Make February YOUR month! 🙂
